I bought and soldered together a MIDI shield from Sparkfun Electronics, but I used short header pins instead of long, female header pins. But I wanted to have access to the unused pins on the Arduino.

I had an idea, the kind that is crazy enough that it just might work. So I bought two sets of female header pins and soldered them together at right angles and trimmed the leads on one side:

Problem solved for $3.00 USD!
